Auckland – a city with many faces

Actually, New Zealand is always associated with endless hilly landscapes, pastures and sheep. Larger cities usually have no place in such ideas. But there is a metropolis in the small island nation in the Pacific that actually deserves this name and can certainly compete with its counterparts in Europe or the USA. The name of this city is Auckland. Although the city, despite its almost 1 million inhabitants, is not the capital of New Zealand, it is by far the largest and most populous. And also in terms of sights, excursion destinations and nightlife options, Auckland is the top address in all of New Zealand.

Auckland – the variety of possibilities

Auckland is a highly recommended travel destination, especially because of its variety of options. For example, if you want to eat out in Auckland or go on an extensive shopping tour, you will get your money’s worth. There are many great boutiques and upscale restaurants in the Parnell district. On the other hand, things are a bit more alternative in Ponsonby, where many trendy cafés invite their guests to internalize the chilled lifestyle of the New Zealanders. But no matter where you go, Auckland always shows a different facet and there is always something exciting to discover.

Look out over the city from Mt Eden

The best view of Auckland is from Mt Eden, which towers majestically over the city. Especially a sunset is guaranteed to be an unforgettable experience here.

Water sports in Auckland

It is not for nothing that Auckland is also called the “City of Sails”. This name, which comes from the countless sailing ships that are anchored in the city’s marinas, also applies to other activities in the cool water. How about B. with an action-packed trip on one of the jetboats? If you prefer it a little quieter, you can also sail in the bay. Diving and surfing courses are also offered.

The most beautiful sights in Auckland

Auckland War Memorial Museum

Despite its name, the beautiful, gleaming white museum, which is located in the middle of Domain Park, does not primarily show exhibitions about the war. Rather, it is known and loved for its extensive exhibition on the culture and arts of the indigenous people of the Pacific Islands. The daily dance performances in particular are a real highlight.

Sky City with Sky Tower

The main attraction of Sky City is the Sky Tower, which with its 328 meters is the tallest building in the southern hemisphere and offers a great view over the city from its two viewing platforms. There is also a restaurant and a casino. Thrill-seekers can jump from a platform 192 meters above the ground on a bungee rope at the so-called “Skyjump”.

Harbor Bridge

Not as world famous as its counterpart in Sydney, but still nice to look at and one of the city’s landmarks.

Auckland Zoo

Probably one of the most beautiful zoos in the world with large, species-appropriate enclosures that primarily accommodate the local fauna. Also pretty cheap.

Cornwall Park

Of the numerous parks in Auckland, Cornwall Park is arguably the most beautiful. In the quiet of the meadows and trees you can watch the sheep and cattle graze, have a picnic or just let your mind wander. On a small hill, One Tree Hill, there is a memorial and the grave of the park’s founder.

Viaduct Harbor

This formerly ailing part of the city center was completely renovated on the occasion of the Americas Cup and is now one of the most beautiful corners of the city. Chic restaurants, bars and clubs invite you to enjoy and celebrate, especially in the evenings.
