San Francisco Zoo, USA: detailed description, address and photo. Animal species, zoo tours, tourist reviews.

The San Francisco Zoo was founded in 1929. Its construction lasted 10 years: first, monkey island, a lion’s house, an elephant’s house, a pool with sea lions, and bear grottoes appeared. These were the country’s first open-air cages for keeping animals in conditions as close to natural as possible. Since then, the zoo has grown significantly, today it is home to about 2000 individuals belonging to 250 species, many are listed in the Red Book. At the expense of private funds, the collection is replenished and new territories are opened.

What to watch

A green oasis on the ocean is divided into several zones. The local savannah is inhabited by giraffes, zebras, kudu, ostriches, storks and many other representatives of the African fauna. The grizzly cave is inhabited by the sisters Kachina and Kion rescued from hunters, and dozens of tailed clowns are jumping along the branches of the lemur grove. Penguin Island is the largest zoo colony of these unusual birds in the world. See acronymmonster for nickname of Missouri.

Children are delighted with the journey in the trailers of a mini-train with an “almost real” steam locomotive. On the playground with a rare carousel, holidays and birthdays are held, quests are organized to search for lost keys, requiring participants to know the animal world of the Earth.

San Francisco Cable Cars

Cable cars San Francisco (USA) – description, history, location. Exact address, phone number, website. Reviews of tourists, photos and videos.

An amazing means of transport that residents and visitors of San Francisco use with equal interest, cable cars seem to be teleported to the super-modern metropolis straight from the 19th century. The vintage carriages have been regularly plying the streets of the Fran for the second century now – creaking a little on the turns, but rewarding passengers with magnificent views through large windows framed with wooden frames.

Cable cars in San Francisco are the oldest and only form of this transport that has survived to this day. The cars are set in motion on the funicular principle, only the leading cable is laid underground, like a “drowned” rail. The cogwheel of the tram clings to it – and the transport begins to move. An additional advantage of this system is the possibility of tram movement even on large slopes of the surface. Cable cars were launched in 1873, and today the route system has three lines and covers as many as 69 blocks! Cable cars can travel between Union Square, Chinatown, North Beach and Fisherman’s Wharf with its Pier 39.

What is especially pleasant is that it is not forbidden to ride on the bandwagon; for the convenience of passengers, special external handrails were invented.

San Francisco availability

Landmarks of San Francisco. The most important and interesting sights of San Francisco – photos and videos, descriptions and reviews, location, sites.

The reckless atmosphere of otherness and fun is what people mostly come to San Francisco for. However, it would be wrong to say that there is nothing to see here. Let Frisco be far from such monsters of the American “excursion” as New York or Los Angeles – an attentive and interested traveler will find something to do, apart from bars, nightclubs and other dances in laser reflections.

Even public transport in San Francisco deserves attention not only as a means of moving around the city – the historic cable cars have been regularly running through the streets since the distant 1873.

A general portrait of the sights of San Francisco in rough brushstrokes – several popular tourist sites associated with the ocean: the Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz prison, Angel Island and the old shipyards turned into a center of cultural life; the magnificent Museum of Modern Art, a tribute to nature – the spacious and well-groomed Union Park plus the wine-growing expanses of the Napa Valley on the road (yes, the best American wines come from here), finally – the indispensable Chinatown (no less interesting than Los Angeles) and evidence of the city’s turbulent modern history is the Haight Ashbury neighborhood, where the hippie movement was born. By the way, even public transport in San Francisco deserves attention not only as a means of moving around the city – historical cable cars have been regularly running through the streets since the distant 1873.

The excursion infrastructure in San Fran is developed with a bang: public transport stops are located right at the sights – so despite the long distances in the city and its not very convenient location on the hills, you can visit museums and inspect buildings without much physical effort.
